IES light profiles

Does anyone know how to work with IES light profiles? I've read some threads about it, but no one explains exactly how to work with IES. If you know any good thread discussing this, please paste it.

*edit, in addition to what's said in that tutorial, you can also download the actual light fixtures(not just how the light distributes from it) meshes from www.erco.com, not sure if they do maya flavour though
