Im hoping someone will be able to help me on this prob. I have already searched the forum for previous posts regarding this issue but these solutions do not seem to be working.
So let me start with the setup I have.
I am trying to get a second computer to assist in rendering, via mental ray satellites.
However i am not sure that the setup of the computers is ideal for this to work.
The main machine (client): PC, Windows XP 64bit, has maya 2008 installed.
2nd Machine (Slave): Mac Pro, Boot camp install of Windows 32bit, with myr_mrSatellite3.6.1_win32 installed.
I created the maya.rayhosts file containing the ip address of the slave machine and the port number used for the mr sat, which i found in the servies file on the slave machine.
so the maya.rayhosts file looks like this:
192.168.1.85:7107
and placed this file without the .txt extention into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\maya\2008-x64\prefs
i have tested to make sure that the client computer can connect to the slave machine via the ping command with the slave ip, and results came back fine. So the client can see the slave machine.
The services file was checked to make sure the port numbers match.
I have also checked to make sure the raysat2008server is running on the slave machine, which it is.
However when I open maya and try and render a scene with mental ray (i bumped up the settings to very high quality to make sure it sends data to other comp), it just seems to be using the client machine. I dont get any messages regarding looking for a host computer to render from. It just seems not to be doing anything regarding the maya satellites. I get no error messages at all which is the most annoying thing. But it is definately not working when i try and render.
If there is anymore information you need to help assist with a solution please let me know.
