Fast skin set up

I'm trying to set up back scatter color so that it is driven by ray depth. Let's say I set back scatter depth to 10. I want depth at 0 to be red and depth at 10 to be blue so depth at 5 should be purple. I'm assuming this can be set up with a ramp and a few connections, but I haven't had any luck.
