Ankit here, wanted to know if there is a way to not include a object in final gathering process. reason is I am getting very large soft shadows below it which makes it look blotchy and faked. Is there a way to control the soft-shadows that final gather makes. I am using Max 9 with Mental Ray.

hi photons, this should not be a question of FG but a question of the lights, and that depends of wich kind of shadow you will take, raytraced or shadow map, f.e. if you take MR sun and Sky, than you can tune the quality over the samplings. I hope i understand you. perhaps you can post a picture of you problem.

Regards Seeda.

hmm strange thing , i have never seen something like this before , but i think that could be a reaction with the reflecting and refracting glas over the clock , perhaps you can combine the glasmaterial with a transmat, because then should fall the sunlight without any problems onto clock with the right shadows.
