Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me out with a Dialectric bump network.
I tried using a Maya Phong, and the connecting the Dialectric material and Dialectric Photon in the shading node and connecting a Maya 2d Bump node into the phong bump node but it didnt work. I dont want to use displacement since it is very time consuming. Is there a network to use bump with a Dialectric material ? do you have to use an MRAY bump network ? if so how do you connect it to the Dialectric ?.
THANX !:p

This is explained in detail in the MR reference docs that come with Maya. You can find these docs here:
C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya8.0\devkit\mentalray\docs\gettingS tarted
Thats considering you installed in the standard C: directory, but at least this gives you the idea of where to find them. Goodluck.
Amazing wave of dielectric-plugged-in-Maya-shader cases in almost 24h (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=428703), am I missing something serious or I've refrained myself from laughing too long ? Seriously !?
I know I shouldn't...
Loooooooool !!!
Sorry I did my best yesterday already, nervous charge too hot to hold :D
federimanu, it's posted right here :)

Thanx a lot. The Network for bump that you linked though is mapped to a DGS ?..would you mind showing a network that is linked directly into dialectric..? thanx again.
My bad, that network is working for dgs and A&D shaders (plus maybe some others) but not with dielectric. I apologize.
As far as my knowledge goes, you will need some third party shader, like Bump Combiner (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/shaders/maya-bumpCombiner--for-mentalray--2996.html) or Brendan McCaffrey modified dielectric (http://www.bmcaff.com/) found under Downloads > Shaders. The one wich says "samples here".
BumpCombiner can add bump to almost all of the mr shaders wich have no explicit slot for that (maybe all of them, dunno), and it is easy to use.
