Sorry if that was reported already, and that may apply on my system only but the read/unread thread tags do not propagate automatically to the head of the forums hierarchy. I have to go back one level by one level in order to get them clear. Quite tedious and confusing sometimes :)

Thanks !

A point I've already told about (but it seems to have sunk in the abysses of rendering discussions :D ) : with Firefox, I don't have horizontal scrollbars when displayed pictures are bigger than my resolution screen.
So I don't see the whole pictures and some text is "missing". I have to expand my Firefox window on the second monitor, it's a bit worrying...

Anyway, thanks for this great forum, I won't leave it for that.

edit : here's a screenshot ;)

I just wanted to suggest using a little more info in the name of each individual page. Right now, for example, if I open up a couple of shader pages each is titles Shader, the same is true with Tools. It helps not only with tabbed browsing but also with bookmarking to have something like the tool or shader name in the page title.

Apart from that, keep up the good work :)

site is a mess so far, maybe in just IE.. who can say. If I click on a New Reply above, I get an error window pop up that says Operation aborted (referring to the newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p-8372 ). Also, scrolling through this forum is slow for some reason. While someone who thinks they're too smart or a smartass will say, "then use Firefox", that's not the correct answer. The public site should be accessable regardless if a person uses IE, Safari, Opera, Firefox... to an extent. I understand the issues with making a dynamic site while trying to support a few browsers, but maybe some more browser testing should go into the development part of the site.

Also, if I'm browsing in shaders or materials and hit the Back button on my browser, it says the webpage expired. I pretty much have to go to the first page of shaders again and start over.

Lastly, if I download a shader, say ctrl_shader, it shouldn't come up as 12341234234wsdfwewlekjfswersers.rar. It should be renamed on the fly, or stored as ctrl_shader_x64.rar or something as such. A side note with that, there should be one compression allowed on here.. ie. either Zip or Rar, but not both. I've downloaded 4 shaders from Ctrl Studio and 2 are zip and 2 are rar. There should be some consistency, no?

These are just some, hopefully, constructive criticisms to make this site even better.

Thanks!

not worried about rars or zip, everyone should use winrar anyway as it extracts .zips to.

i have noticed some performance issues over the last few days dunno if it is your server or the increase in traffic since the launch of 2.5. yesterday it was unbearable today a little better.

Anyway all in all a very nice website lets hope that the small teething troubles can be ironed out

well done and thankyou for this every increasing resource

Thanks for your comments. I did some very thorough testing on Internet Explorer 6,7, Opera, Firefox and Safari. And I spent long and frustrating hours trying to debug the shaders section with virtually zero tools that explorer had.

I went to the forum and tried some scrolling and I can't notice problems with that. I did notice the Operation aborted but I don't know what that could be related to because that's a Vbulletin thing and the only thing that I have touched is the template and I doubt that it would affect. Anyway, I'll take a look.

As far as the "back" button issues, yes I am well aware of that and I will be working on those issues shortly. In the mean time the workaround for that can be: When you hit back and you're told that the webpage expired, hit the refresh button.

As far as the naming, you are seeing the result of uploads made before we fixed this issue so they kept their name as those weird names in the database. Any new uploads should retain their original name.

As far as consistency, I have zero control over that. And I mean its up to whatever the community wants to upload (rar, zip, pdf).

I will try to make some time to work on some of the issues.

Thanks

Hello,

First I'm glad to see the improvment of this site.
Just 2 bugs :
the goldmat material is called turtoise when opened in Maya. Julian should have copy the shader :)

BTW a little file who explain some shader would be nice. I can't find how you apply the carbon one, I never use that kind of color mix.

It seems to me the env is a little too bright on top of the ball. I had hard time matching my shader like brushed metal, too much white. I think the previous version was not so bright ?

Thanks again for all.

I just fixed the horizontal scroll problem. It was a bit tough to find it when my browser wasn't giving me that problem but it is fixed now :)

Let me know if there's other issues

Wow..

The forum is getting worse and worse. (using IE and I'm not switching :) ). Right now I have two scrollbars on the right.. the inner one doesn't have a 'block' so you can't scroll.. the outer one does work. These two scrollbars also cause the problem that you can scroll using keys (page up/down).. A fix for that: In your 'showthread' file you have " overflow: scroll; " You might want to remove that tag all together or put it on auto. It atleast fixes your two scrollbar problem in IE.

That fixed (in IE6/7 anyway) the site (forum and mainpage) is still very slow to actually scroll through.. Something in your template.css seems to be the cause. A online CSS validator ( http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ ) shows that you have some errors. Maybe a place to start..

A suggestion.. Could you leave the width of forum at a fixed size ? Like the front page is I guess.. In the forum the pages try to match the max width of the browser. I guess it's a preference thing since I'm used to sites like CGTalk who only scale when there is an oversize image posted on the thread.

Anyway.. I hope you can find some expert help to solve these issues.

Cheers,
wOLV.

Ok so to keep this reply short, I fixed the Operation aborted error on IE, but to do that I had to disable the wysiwyg editor under internet explorer...

Also, I fixed the width and scroll issues under internet explorer.

Hi,

I just would like ask for a small thing : I watched one of the (very-well done by the way) video tutorials about Daylight. Would it be possible to add a Play/Pause button and a timeline to the videos ?

As a lot of people there and even if I can understand the main part, english is not my native language and sometimes, I would have need to rewind the video to listen again.

You have certainly more important stuff to do, but thanks if you can think about that and find some time to add these functions. ;)

I've download the frosty glass and emerald shaders and after I took them out of the .rar file they are listed as .mb files. Does anyone know how i install them for 3ds max 2009?
