I made a couple of Gold materials with the mia A&D
C&C is welcome.
I used the test scene made by bao2 over at CGTalk, which I believe was a scene of Jeff's that he altered/expanded.

The first one I am shooting for a more pure gold, the second one I am trying to hit an alloy of maybe 18k or 20k, although the real-world color for those vary greatly depending on what metals are used to make them.
If there is interest I'll post some settings.

The settings for the first image would be of interest to me, I can see that sort of gold working well for unpolished, cast metal like gold bars. Nice render:D

Wow, thanks for the thread! I am working on A&D gold right now. Aiming for something like this:

For that gold material, I'd think you could use a similar setup. Just not as glossy as my copper test, and of course with a more yellowish diffuse color.

TIP: The default yellowish color used in the translucent color swatch should provide a good starting point for a gold material.

(also the A&D copper preset looks a bit like gold!)

Very fine, Jeff !

All your materials are very detailed, for example the ceramic materials. I like them very much. Perhaps i could give a material , like gold, too this thread. :) It is a crude gold, like a big nugget in a river.

@Glacierise - that image you linked to was actually one of the ones that I was using as reference for my gold in the first post.

I have been *really* busy the past month (had a baby and moved across country...how's that for busy?)
Once I get my machines unpacked and up and running I'll post the materials themselves.

The short of it is: I sampled colors off of the source images (gold (and other alloys) seems to alter its colors a bit in a way I can't describe) and then I took 4 of those sampled colors (all very close to each other rgb-wise) and mixed them together by using them in a couple of nested mix and noise maps (or maybe it was smoke)
For the bump I used a mix map and nested some noise with xyz's as 0.1,1.0,0.1 and such but giving them each a slightly different value and rotation in order to give it a subtle random brush in the same same "general" direction.
Offhand, I can't remember how I handled the other settings.
I'll post when I can with a more complete description of what I did and why, to be both informative and open for c&c.

My plan in the next few weeks is to build up a set of metal materials with the A&D. Some will be just making A&D versions of mental ray shaders I put together in previous versions, others are from scratch.
