hi !:) I am new to mental ray, and I am trying to find a good cellshader. Does any one know a good one?
What is "goosh shader" ?
I saw one for maya , is it compatible with 3dsmax9 ?

The "Ink 'n Paint" max material is compatible with Mental Ray and is what I would use for a toon shader.

thank you, I noticed it was compatible with MR, but I find it slow, and not very inventive compared to plugins like " cebas toon shader " or "illustrate" .
I also noticed it was possible to make a lot of things with MR " contour shader "
thank you for your answer
and by the way ..... Schjaack .... if your question is serious, cellshader is a non photorealistic way of rendering cg images, like a cartoon rendering

Hi,
You can try the toon shader from my web site :
http://www.dl3d.com in the download shaders section.
A lot of people use this shader and find it fast.
It also contain a contour shader which can be used if there is not a big depth difference in your scene as it 's not dependent from the camera distance.

I think you can get the goosh shader for 3dsmax9, but you don't really need to. You can reproduce the same thing with a gradient texture based upon the lighting direction.
The "goosh shader" was design to allow engineers to render 3D representations of their CAD drawings. Using special colors that allow contrast with the CAD drawings black lines. Generally a goosh shader is done in a light blue color.
It's not designed for cartoon style rendering, but can be used for that if you want.
If you have to do a rendering that looks like an early 1990's engineering drawing. Then you should use goosh.

A cell shader is just a material that gives your objects a cartoony look. A contour shader is one that draws the outlines of the object (like a ink drawing around the object).
There are a lot of high end shaders that can vary line thickness, ink colors, and drawing styles. Such as oil paint, water colors, pencil, etc.. etc..

do you have plans for a max9 32/64bit version?

Gary,
The shader, while not mentionned, should work fine with mr 3.4 so with Max 9 32 bits.
And I am about to have a Win 64 bits soon so the 64 bits version of the shader will be available soon.

I suggest the built-in Mental Ray Contour shader. I have Cebas Finaltoon and honestly I sometimes find MR Contours to render faster and look better depending on the look your shooting for. The documentation sucks but if you play with it you'll find it usefull.
