Hey folks!

I'm fairly new to 3DS max (or any 3D package) and I'm looking to start some Architectural Visulisation (including interiors). As such, I've got my bible to 3ds max, and have been going through there religiously. =P

One thing I can't manage to figure out, is how might I create a lapshade in 3DS Max! This would be one used to light up a dark scene, not just to look pretty in a sun-lit scene. I have two types that I'm interested in and help with either would be greatly appreciated! :)

First one would be your standard cloth lampshade found on your traditional table lamps.

The other would be a (for the lack of a better word) foggy/smoked glass look that you'd often see on wall lamps and tall floor lamps.

Once again, I'm very eager to find out what solutions everyone uses. I'm not asking for anyone to do it for me, just to push me in the right direction :)

Thanks in advance!
Nathan

I haven't tried it yet but I believe the second type of lampshade would be achieved by SSS materials

for the first type i would try a sss material, or maybe you can get away with the translucency of the a&d material.

for the second type you could start with the frosted glas preset of the a&d material and adjust to your liking...

You folks are amazing. For the first part, SSS materials from what I've seen in pre-rendered samples around the interwebz looks nothing short of perfect.

For the second part, frosted glass is lookin' pretty neat-o aswell. With a little more tweakin' it'll be perfect

I do ask if you've got any tutorials on them handy that you give me some links! Thanks again!
