I love you German guys, but PLEASE! Make some stuff in English... Everybody in CG communicates in English, too few in German. Or I guess I should learn using online translators :D

hi
some tutorials from the GRMF is here in english. We make it in german because, so many germans can´t good read or write english (look my). although the motherland of computer (Konrad Zuse) & MentalRay is German, so we have the obligation to make a German site. Believe me german is a very nice language and you can learn it. :p :rolleyes:

I have no doubt about that, and I just might start learning, with so many German CG friends!
On the topic: this collection is the best thing since google translation ( hehe ), I am so grateful!
Edit: just a couple of problems/questions:
-when I load a light, I get an IES file missing, pointing to a directory someplace where the IES was stored originally. The lights render, but it still bugs me.
-when I create a scene with a lot of lights and geometry, sometimes the scene doesn't render - max hangs at the 'pre-processing scene' stage. If i delete all the lights, and place them again, it works. Why is that?
Thanks ;)

anyone know how you get to the idrop bit of the website? I've used it before but I can't remember where to look now. i wish more lighting companies would do this. you can get IES data from pixelpar (LED Par cans for lighting stage and set visuals with) which is Nice

Hi wadey, yes its right we wish that too, but in the last months a lot of companys put the IES files for download on their website.
Here is a small list of companies that offer IES files.

MentalRay is German
Actually, it is official mental images policy that "all professional communication within the company is done in English", and at all my visits in the Berlin HQ I probably heard less than a dozen german word spoken in total, and it's always been of the type "where do we go eat lunch?"

Hehehehe thats right, and believe me, we know that too.
Its just a small joke, soon you will see how important english is for us, watch the GMRF on the end of the year. :o

Hi~ I really hope that someone could me out.... I've been fooling around with my scene... trying to achieve volumetric lighting in reference to some of j.patton's tutorial and sample files... but never seems to work it out well...
I am aware that the parti volume allow one to select the light to cast the volumetric effect, but is there a way to cast 2 different type of volume effect on 2 separate spotlight? As you can see that the image shows 2 spotlight, 1 projecting white colored map, while the other cast a multi-colored map.
Perhaps the color casting spotlight shall be accompanied with colored volume~ Any idea???
Any enlightenment?

yes...
take a volumen shader list and then can you use more volumen shader. In the parti-volumen shader can you include exclude the lights.
mode = 0 all lights
mode = 1 include lights
mode = 2 exclude lights
