View Full Version : Why Maya Light Linking make my texture turn black?

Hi, Following is the render of a Maya scene in MentalRay.
There is a Point Light in the scene which is my base light for the scene casting raytrace shadows.
what I did is I switched off the 'illuminate by default' attribute of this point light in its attribute editor window
and then I linked this light to every object in the scene(including the door in the scene) apart from the bulb on the wall.(by Rendering-Lighting/Shading-Make lights link)

But after following this step when I take out the render in mentalray , my door appears to have lost its texture and appears black.

Even if I move my door to some other place in the scene, then also door's texture shows black.

I checked my object's(door)Face Normals.They are perfect.

Hope somebody has a solution to my problem.
Thanks in advance

Hey again^^.
So,the door is not the only object connected to the light source, right? (with texture i mean). What material is used for the door?Did you try to isolate the door and render it alone with a light source?Does it happen with a different light source(let's say with an ambient light,"illuminated by the default" option turned on)?

Thanks Geek for coming to my rescue again.
I used my brain on questions put up by you and this is what I have come up with.

I introduced a new ambient in my scene (illuminate by default on) and my door did show up its texture but when I switched off 'illuminate by default 'and linked objects(including door)with this ambient light, my door turned black in the render(mental ray)

I think the problem is the way I have textured my door. The door has been modelled with a single polygon cube and has been extruded at places.
While texturing it I decided to select its faces separately and have put different lambert material with different jpg texture file on different faces.

But when I assigned a default lambert on the whole door(deleting all textures and materials for door), my light got linked to the door.

This thing worked with my earlier assigned point light(my base light)
