Hi, I have been lighting a scene in Maya ,where I desire to get an effect like in below attached image. So I decided to use Point light with Light Glow OpticalFx attribute.

But my problem is when I render it in Mental Ray it shows a gray mesh of a sphere(where the point light has been placed in the scene).

Even if I render the scene with this same Point light with Light Glow OpticalFx attribute with Maya scanline renderer, it shows very wierd results(render attached below). The glow seems to be too large for the whole scene. I have tried hard changing values in the opticalFx window but it does not seem to make any difference.

Moreover, if I use a spot light instead of point light in the scene to get the effect ,the Spotlight's Light Glow OpticalFx attribute does not show up in neither Mentalray render nor Maya render. The scene remains the same as if no Light Glow OpticalFx was added to it.

I would be very thankful if somebody could help me with this

Hey,yep Maya's standart glowFX node doesn't work in MR,but there is trick i would've tried ^^.You can actually fake it and have even more control then Maya's node has. There are two kind of element in glowFx:
hotspot and light rays that come out of it.So,let's take a point light, create a Physical light shader for it (just my personal choise, you might use whatever you like).Once you have it's intensity set up properly, let's set up some light rays. You can actually make procedural one or use a photo, texture etc.For time's sake,i used Maya's "Bulge" node with it's 2dplacement node deleted.(you can just leave it with 1,1 Repeat UV options).Once it's done, you can now use it as a light "pattern",so let's make another light source (i used a spot light),place it where needed, and assign the "pattern" you've created on it's color channel. In the most simple case with a one light ray:),you'll get smth. like this ...

YOu can also bake it in the texture if needed...Anyway,it's just my thoughts, maybe there is a better way to do it.PM me if troubles with settin' it up.Cheers
