Is photon mapping resolution indepedent? I presume that finalgather is but I'm not too sure about photons...Thanks in advance.

Yeah...Photon mapping is resolution independent. Though FG is dependant as it consists of prerender step and render step. So if ones precalculated FG map at 320x240 resolution is then being rendered as 640x480 then FG will have to add rendertime FG points as the distance between precalculated FG sample points is twice bigger. This is true for min/max radii specified in pixel size. I wonder if its the same with scene unit size...
Hope it helps

Hi,
Has anyone tried the freeze option? I mean, rendering a small image with FG save and reload it to render a highres image with and without the freeze option?
(Gonna do this myself anyway, but might be good to hear what people have found before)

I use it all the time, there are other benifits other than saving time such as opening up the oportunity to exclude objects for FG, hide them during the FG calculations and unhide them with the frozen solution
Some say that there is a loss of detail and more artifacting. I have found that this isn't too noticable as long as the FG resolution is not more than half the final rendering resolution, and if you use AO.

That's a good tip. Thanks a lot.
(My tests -animations- are still in the network, due to an overload of more important work. Will keep you updated)

I use freeze FG when I use desplacment on grass... Disable displacment then calculate FG, then freeze FG and enable dsplacment... And hit render...
Time to calculate FG will be smaller and shadows will be appear on grass:)

That is really smart. Gonna try that too.
