I was wondering if someone uses alternative software for editing images. I've been using Photoshop for years but I don't understand that there is no function for premultiplied alpha.

Use the foundry's Nuke or Apple's shake.

When I hear buddies of mine talking about simple differences between Photoshop and Combustion, I really think to leave PS... :s

What about Toxic ? Does anyone use it and have feedbacks to do ?
I don't understand : on Autodesk's website, they strongly refer to Maya. What about 3dsmax ?

It's a PS plugin that works for exr images rather well and gives you a lot of features regarding premultiplying that PS SHOULD have.

This version is still very slow, but there is a new version coming (hope Brendan doesn't mind me saying that - should be in his interest I figured), that will be drastically speed improved.

I know I'm lazy but that plugin would be ace if it moved the depth chanel from the exr into it's on own secondary alpha chanel in photoshop automatically. plugins like lenscare always rely on this.

Yup - I think that should work fine.

I found a photoshop function that really made me happy today.
To get rid of the (non)premultiply edges in Photoshop read this:

To remove this outer edge you can either:
A. In your compositing application, use the option to remove the outer edge. For example, in Photoshop you can do the following:
Layer > Matting > Remove Black Matte

I bet you guys already knew this right?
