View Full Version : Strange Caustics artifact???

I am working with MR caustics and am getting a strange effect on refracted caustics. The object is a simple editable poly with subdivision smoothing set at level 2. The refracted caustics are showing a wireframe effect from the object. This looks very strange.
Unless I am misunderstanding something, it shouldnt look like this (see attached image)
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Attached are a sample render and a screenshot of the caustic settings
thanks

Could you add model wire frame ? i think you should increase model smooth interations, couse coustics settings are precise and you get geometry look of it.....

I've attached the wireframe used for the render in the initial post (wireframe.gif)
Ive also attached a render and wireframe with a much denser subdivision setting. The banding artifact is still present.
It seems strange that you would have to make such a dense mesh in order to avoid this sort of artifact. If i were to make a scene using multiple objects, the polygon count would get ridiculously high.

This happens becouse your coustic photons are denser then mesh, I mean they cast thru poly by small radius and big amount generating exact geometry coustic. I think you should blur it out more like increasing photons per sample and increasing sampling radius till you get rid of this geometric looking-coustics.

I think I understand what you are getting at. I'll try changing the settings. I'll follow up with my results.
Thank you for taking the time to reply
