I am quite new to mental ray (I am most used to Vray) and i was wondering if there is a way to specify environmental reflections (I use them when doing IBL).
In Vray, this is accessible via the environment rollout (see image attached). Where is the equivalent in Mental Ray??

In the 3ds max environment map?
To get it to *illuminate* the scene, though, you need to:
1. Add a "skylight"
2. Set it to "Use scene environment
3. Turn on Final Gathering

thank for your reply!
I prefer to specify directly my HDRI map in the sky color map option, and don't use the scene environnement, because I don't want my HDRI map to appear in the background (my scene and the HDRI don't necessarely match).
But by doing so, this wil only handle the diffuse lighting....i don't get reflections. Is there a way to get general scene reflections without having a scene environment showing in the background?

You can also put you HDR in the environment slot of the material.
Also, I usually make sphere that surounds my scene and map the HDR to the sphere. Then just turn off visible to camera in the object properties. Then I run a seperate BG pass and comp in post.
