hi

been trying to play with Mr proxies, but i've got a pretty big problem. i started with a sphere, made a proxy, picked the sphere, made a proxy file, everything is fine. i then copy the proxy and everything is fine. i render it everything is fine. so i saved the scene and went to reopen it and it just crashes every time. tried from scratch a few times.

I'm using Max 2009 32-bit
Cpu core2duo e6850 (3ghz,1333mhzFSB,4mbcache)
4gb ram (i know its not using all of it)
BFG 8800 GTX 768mb
(only reformatted computer 2 days ago, latest drivers for everything)

i might expect some problems if i had like 100 + copies of the proxy but i only had 2 and it was just of a standard max sphere. can anyone help? any similar problems? i saw someone do a render of like 1000 cars no problem how can it be crashing with 2 spheres when i try reopen the file?

thanks

hi

do you activate "BSP2" ?

if you work with mr-proxies and want to copy an object you have to make instances!

hi

this is max2009 bug in proxy objects... if you set viewport verts to low (eg. 1,20 etc) your scene crashes when your reload it.
I'm set viewport verts to 500 and display proxy objects as box and my viewport speed is ok.

best regards

thanks for tips guys.

for some reason, i transfered the files to my D drive and theres no crashes, well a couple. i guess that means my C drive is failing or windows was corupt.

Since then, i bought Xp 64, and installed Max 2009 64-bit, because eventually Mr proxies were not enough to stop mental running out of memory. My computer is using its full 4GB of ram, and i'm loving it. Not had one memory issue with mental ray at render and my scene is twice as big.

i had a few problems today with proxies again, might be what you mentioned about max crashing if the amount of points are low. anyway, this bench that i wanted to instance 20 times was the offender. reset the Xform of the original bench and remade the proxy and everything fine since.

thanks again guys
